1. Always wear a lifejacket.
2. Keep an eye on the weather and tides.
3. Tell others where you are going.
4. Don't rely on mobile phones.
5. Carry some way of calling for help VHF radio is recommended.
6. Carry appropriate flares for your type of vessel and waters.
7. Store your flares in a water/air tight container and make sure everyone knows were they are.
8. Check your engine and fuel before you go afloat.
9. Read the instructions on all safety equipment before you need them.
10. Make sure all members of your crew know where all the safety and emergency kit is.
