Queenborough Harbour Bid
Swale Borough Council has decided to relinquish control of Queenborough
Harbour, and is in the process of accepting tenders.
At this time Queenborough
Yacht Club (QYC) do not know what companies or organisations have shown an interest
in Queenborough Harbour, though it would be safe to say that some commercial
businesses are probably interested.
QYC have given notice to Swale borough council of it's intention to apply for the running of Queenborough Harbour. They believe that the harbour is the heart of Queenborough and it should therefore be run by members of the local community for the local community.
Plans have been formulated that will improve the amenities of the harbour and will increase visitor numbers to the town. This will have a positive impact upon the local businesses in Queenborough.
If QYC are successful in their bid to control the harbour they would like to remove all of the existing moorings and replace them with pontoons over what they estimate would be a five year time scale. It would be QYC's aim to keep mooring costs as low as possible while improving the facilities, and fear that if the harbour was handed to a commercial enterprise many local people would find them selves priced out of keeping a boat.
QYC want the harbour to develop into an area that contributes to the local economy while still maintaining a wonderful view.
QYC hope that the local community will support it in their bid to run the harbour, and are happy to talk to anyone in the community about their goals and welcome suggestions that would improve the harbour for locals and visitors.
