After eleven-man overboard incidents recorded during the Round the Island Race.
MCA officials were still assessing some 32 incidents during the race. The association launched a campaign to improve education, and encourage manufacturers to make life preservers more comfortable to wear.
Peter Cardy, Chief executive of MCA said, “The importance of wearing a lifejacket cannot be overstressed”. He went on to say “having been sailing for 50 years I have been overboard and know that a lifejacket helps you to be rescued, it helps you to be seen and it stops you getting exhausted”.
